JANE EYRE_ CHAPTER FOUR
1_ It was Mr. Mason, an old friend of Mr. Rochester. He was young, well-dressed with dark hair,

Then someone called Mr. Rochester for help.
3_ The other visitors woke up and Mr. Rochester said that one of the servants had a nightmare and
thought she had seen a ghost.
4_ He asked her to follow him to the attic and there she saw Mr. Mason lying in bed with his eyes
closed. His shirt was covered in blood, so Jane thought he was dead, but he wasn’t, he was
badly hurt.
5_He asked Jane to stay with Mr. Mason until he returned with a doctor and he asked Mr. Mason
not to speak to Jane.
6_She was frightened because Grace Pool was in the next room and she might come out and hurt
her and Mr. Mason.
7_He took Mason to a safe place to take care of him until he was well enough to go back to the
West Indies.
8_Mr. Mason told Mr. Rochester “Promise to look after her”. And Mr. Rochester replied “I will
always look after her.”
9_They went for a walk in the garden and when Jane told him she was afraid of Grace Pool, he
told her that Grace Pool wouldn’t harm her. It was Mason he feared, because he might say
something without meaning to that would do Mr. Rochester great harm.
10_Jane told him to say to Mr. Mason to be careful about what he says but Mr. Rochester laughed
and said that it was not that simple and then they went back into the house.

there she found out that her cousin John had died.
2_It was from her uncle in Madeira. It said that he was looking for his niece Jane to go and live
with him since he was a rich man and had no children.
3_She saw that it was sent 3 years ago. Her aunt told her that she had never liked Jane and that she
told her uncle that Jane had died at Lowood School.
4_Mrs. Reed died and Jane felt sad that she had disliked her until her death. At the same time she
felt happy to return to Thornfield Hall because for her it was the most beautiful place in the
world and it was her home.
5_Yes, she was, but she was afraid that Mr. Rochester might have got married to Blanche Ingram,
so she would have to leave.
6_She couldn’t stand the idea of them being married because she had feeling for Mr. Rochester.
7_That he was getting married to Ms. Ingram and that she would have to leave.
8_He said that he was getting married, Adèle had to go to school, Jane should look for a new job
and that he would help her. Jane cried and said she would never forget him.
9_Jane felt angry and thought that he didn’t know how she felt or cared how much his words hurt
her. She told him that she could never stay. If he married Miss Ingram, she would have to go.
10_He asked her to stay with him because he wanted to marry her.
11_No, she thought he was laughing at her, and that he was cruel.
12_Yes she did, Mr. Rochester said “no one is going to stop us”, with a strange look in his eyes and Jane didn’t understand what he meant, but she was too happy to think about it.
